Mass and Charity Lunch at St Mary’s
A chance to enjoy a light lunch. The money raised will be used to support a charity. The lunch usually consists of soup (with a vegetarian option), a bread and cheese main with a pudding to follow. The cost is £2.50 and includes free entry into a raffle.
Organ Recital by Brian Moles
An organ recital concert given by Brian Moles, Director of Music and Organist of St Mary’s. Tickets are £5 at the door (which includes a glass of wine). Free for students. Proceeds are in aid of the Organ Project, theorganproject.org, which exists to preserve the renowned, 125 year old Walker Organ installed in St Mary’s Church in the heart of Portsmouth, Hampshire for the local community and future generations. Do Something Different Days
“ Do-Something-Different Days” coming this August! Fun, food, film and friendship for older people in Portsmouth. Dates and venues are: Tuesday 1st August: All Saints Church, Commercial Road Thursday 10th August: St George’s Church, Gun wharf Tuesday 15th August: St Luke’s Church, Greetham Street Wednesday 23rd August: St Mary’s Church, Fratton Road All days run from 10am to 3.30pm and cost £5 (payable on the day) which includes activities, refreshments and lunch. Bellringers’ Full Peal at St Mary’s
In honour of Corporal Frederick Burrow on the centenary anniversary of his death. He was a former bellringer at St Mary’s. A member of the 15th battalion Hampshire Regiment, he was killed on 1 August 1917 aged 21 or 22 and probably died at the battle of Battle of Pilckem Ridge. He is buried in the Wytschaete Military Cemetary in Belgium.
Parish Mass for the Transfiguration
A celebration of the occasion when Jesus appeared in all his glory to his disciples on a mountain top. The service will also be a service of thansgiving for Revd Sue’s ministry. There will only be a said services at St Mary’s at 8am and 10am that morning, and no service at St Faith’s or St Wilfrid’s. With the Choir of St Mary’s: Holy is the True Light – Harris.
Summer Party at St Mary’s
Come along and bring your family and friends to our Summer Party which will include a disco and food (please bring your own drinks). The party is between 5-7pm for those with younger children and their families. The BBQ will be served from 6.30-7.30pm. Disco continues until 10pm. Tickets are £3 per adult and £1.50 for U16’s. Patronal Festival Mass at St Wilfrid’s Church
A celebration of the life of the Church of St Wilfrid’s. The service will be followed by refreshments. With the Choir of St Mary’s: Harris – Holy is the True Light.
Come and Sing Choral Evensong at St Mary’s
Singers pay £5 which includes all music and a cream tea (available before the rehearsal). There will also be a card stall and a raffle. Singers under 16 (must be accompanied by a guardian) are free. Gowns welcome but optional. The service is free with a collection. All money raised in aid of the St Mary’s Music Foundation helping the music education of local children. Melanie Stephenson (Soprano) Music Foundation Concert at St Mary’s
Melanie Stephenson, Soprano, accompanied by Karen Kingsley on the Piano, perform an afternoon recital of favourite music including Lieder, Operetta and English Art Song. The programme starts with the assertion that the only pure, true love is found in Jesus. There are then songs about finding love on Earth – starting at night (remembering, being tormented, anticipating), and then the daytime (troubles and triumphs). The children retell the Story of Christmas, with carols and candlelight. The service is followed by tea and cakes. Children who wish to take part in the drama should arrive by 3.30pm to get into their costumes.
