The recitalist in the organ loft is relayed instantaneously to a large screen which makes for gripping viewing! \nOrgan Recitalist on the Big Screen  \nThe programme:\nToccata and Fugue in F major\, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) BWV 540\nSonata No.2 in C minor\, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) Op.65\nSuite in D major\, Henry Purcell (1659-1695) Op.105\nPostlude in F major\, Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924)\nPaean\, Kenneth Leighton (1929-1988)\nAndante (from Symphonie No.1)\, Louis Vierne (1870-1937) Op.14\nFantasy and Fugue on the Theme B-A-C-H\, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) \nPeter was Master of the Music in Derby Cathedral for 32 years retiring in 2015. He had a career of 40 years of working in English Cathedrals. \nPeter now lives just north of Portsmouth and finds that he is doing more organ playing in services and recitals than he ever did in Derby! DESCRIPTION:Box & Fir are a nationally renowned ensemble from Windsor\, and we are very pleased they are coming all the way to Portsmouth to perform at our final Music Foundation Concert of the season. \nFeaturing Rogers Covey-Crump (Tenor)\, Jenny Thomas (Flute & \nRogers Covey-Crump\, Tenor  \nRecorder) and Ian Gammie (Guitar)\, they will be performing music from all four corners of the British Isles.  The programme\, featuring songs and traditional music from around 1800\, includes “The Last Rose of Summer”\, “Mary of Argyle”\, “Cadair Idris”\, “Tom Bowling” and more\, accompanied by an early guitar and 4-keyed wooden flute. \nJenny Thomas flute & recorder\, Ian Gammie guitar  \nFormed in 1994\, the Windsor Box&Fir Co has given many concerts. DESCRIPTION:A special service\, including the imposition of ashes\, to mark the beginning of Lent.  Guest Preacher: Revd Greg Bakker\, S Columba Fareham and Pioneer Advisor.  With the Choir of St Mary’s: Byrd – Miserere Mei\, Wesley – Wash Me Throughly \nImposition of Ashes  \nAsh Wednesday opens Lent\, a season of fasting and prayer.  People wear the sign of the Cross in ash on their forehead\, which is called the imposition of the ashes.  The ashes symbolise the dust from which God made us\, and are obtained from burning the previous year’s palm crosses.  As the priest applies the ashes to a person’s forehead\, they speak the words: “Remember that you are dust\, and to dust you shall return.”
