DESCRIPTION:UNFORTUNATELY ROBERT NEW HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THIS CONCERT IS POSTPONED UNTIL WE CAN RE-ARRANGE DATES WITH HIM. \nSomething a little different as part of our 2018 Organ Recital series.  Instead of hearing St Mary’s Walker organ\, Robert New will be performing a selection of film\, orchestral and modern music on his state of the art electronic organ\, showing the diversity of the instrument. \nTickets are £10\, £8 concessions.  All proceeds will kindly be donated by Rob to support the restoration of the Walker organ – The Organ Project (www.theorganproject.org). \nRobert New Live in Concert  \nTickets can be bought online at eventbrite.co.uk.

DESCRIPTION:Melanie Stephenson\, Soprano\, accompanied by Karen Kingsley on the Piano\, perform an afternoon recital of favourite music including Lieder\, Operetta and English Art Song. The programme starts with the assertion that the only pure\, true love is found in Jesus. There are then songs about finding love on Earth – starting at night (remembering\, being tormented\, anticipating)\, and then the daytime (troubles and triumphs). The recital follows a day\, starting and ending with the moon. It ends optimistically! The programme includes: \nNulla in mundo pax sincera – Vivaldi\nClair de Lune – Faure\nDie Lotosblume – Schumann\nDas Verlassene Magdlein – Wolf\nRheinlegendchen – Mahler\nSogno d’infanzia – Bellini\nPiano solo – Ophelia’s Song – Maconchy\n‘Tis done! I am a bride – Sullivan\nSweet Chance that led my Steps – Head\nMy true love hath my heart – Parry\nThe Sun whose rays – Sullivan \nAdmission free. Retiring collection in aid of the St Mary’s Music Foundation\, which supports young people from the area in developing their musical skills. Concert lasts about an hour. Refreshments served afterwards. \nMelanie Stephens (Soprano) \nMelanie Stephenson trained at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal College of Music. She performed at the Royal Gala for the opening of the Britten Theatre and was awarded the Colles Prize.
