Mozart’s obsession with opera pervades all his mature works – especially those included in this concert. From the characterful opposition of piano, winds, and strings in his Piano Concerto no.22 it is clear that, having written just one opera in the past four years, something was brewing. While composing the concerto, he was quietly working on a much larger project: Le nozze di Figaro.
PROGRAMME:
Le nozze di Figaro, Overture.
Piano Concerto no.22 in Eb, K.482 (soloist: Raphael Stoker).
Symphony no.41 in C, K.551, ‘Jupiter’.
Proceeds from this concert will be divided equally between St Mary’s Music Foundation and Beechwood Opera, for their upcoming production of Le nozze di Figaro.
